ASTM A268 TP410 Seamless Tube For Steam Condensers and Feedwater Heaters
1. Material Composition (TP410):
Chromium (Cr): 11.5–13% (provides moderate corrosion resistance).
Carbon (C): 0.08–0.15% (enables heat treatment for hardening).
Other elements (Mn, Si, etc.) in smaller amounts.
2. Mechanical Properties (Typical after Heat Treatment):
Tensile Strength: ~70 ksi (485 MPa).
Yield Strength: ~45 ksi (310 MPa).
Hardness: Adjustable via quenching and tempering.
3. Manufacturing & Testing:
Seamless Production: Made via extrusion/piercing, offering superior strength and uniformity for high-pressure applications.
Testing Requirements: Hydrostatic/NDT (e.g., eddy current), chemical analysis, and mechanical tests (tensile, hardness).
4. Key Characteristics:
High Strength: Suitable for stress-bearing applications.
Moderate Corrosion Resistance: Less than austenitic grades (e.g., 304/316); ideal for mild environments.
Magnetic: Inherent to martensitic structure.
Heat Treatable: Supplied in annealed condition for formability, then hardened as needed.
5. Applications:
Industrial: Hydraulic systems, instrumentation, fuel lines.
Automotive: Exhaust components, turbine parts.
General Engineering: Fasteners, pump shafts, boiler tubes.
6. Limitations & Considerations:
Corrosion: Avoid highly corrosive environments (e.g., chlorides/acids) without coatings.
Welding: Requires pre/post-heat treatment to prevent cracking.
Cost: Seamless tubes are typically more expensive than welded alternatives.
