ASTM A182 is the Standard Specification for Forged Stainless Steel Pipe Flanges and Stainless Steel Forged Fittings.
ASTM 182 is used for pressure systems, including flanges, fittings, and similar parts that conform to specified dimensions or dimensional standards such as ASME codes.
ASTM A182 flanges are a method of connecting pipes, valves, pumps, and other equipment to form a piping system. It also facilitates cleaning, inspection or modification. Flanges are usually welded or threaded. Flange joints are made by bolting two flanges together with a gasket between them to provide a seal.
Stainless steel is an iron alloy containing at least 10.5% chromium. Chromium produces a thin layer of oxide on the surface of the steel, called a "passivation layer". This prevents any further corrosion of the surface. Increasing the chromium content can improve corrosion resistance.
Stainless steel also contains varying amounts of carbon, silicon and manganese. Other elements, such as nickel and molybdenum, can be added to impart other useful properties such as enhanced formability and enhanced corrosion resistance.
ASTM A182 flanges are ready for industrial, construction and transportation applications.
304 stainless steel flanges are martensitic stainless steel. The addition of nickel and molybdenum to ANSI B16.5 grade 150 stainless steel flanges gives excellent sub-zero notch ductility superior to other standards, namely 13 Cr, 410 and 420 Mod.
