What is the meaning of SS 304?
Type 304 stainless steel is a T 300 series austenitic stainless steel. It contains a minimum of 18% chromium and 8% nickel, and a maximum of 0.08% carbon. It is defined as a chromium-nickel austenitic alloy. Grade 304 is the standard "18/8" stainless steel you might see in pans and cooking tools.
What is difference between ss316 and ss304?
The main difference between 304 and 316 stainless steel is the chemical composition, 316 contains a large amount of molybdenum; typically 2 to 3% by weight, while 304 has only trace amounts. Higher molybdenum content results in higher corrosion resistance of grade 316.
Is 304 stainless steel good quality?
Both steels are durable and have excellent corrosion and rust resistance. 304 stainless steel is the most versatile and widely used austenitic stainless steel in the world because of its corrosion resistance.
How can you tell if stainless steel is 304?
If you want to do spot check of SS, just take a random piece from the raw material and do a spark test. Run a grinder on it, if the sparks are reddish orange, thin and don't fly much it's SS304. If the sparks are yellow, thick and fly lot further it is SS 202.
