ASTM A269 / ASME SA269 TP316L Bright Annealed Stainless Steel Tube
The tubing specified in ASTM A269 can be produced through either the seamless or welded process. Seamless tubing is achieved by piercing a solid billet and extruding it into a hollow tube, while welded tubing is made by forming a strip or plate into a tubular shape and welding the edges together. The tube often has a smooth surface finish. The standard requires that the tubes be reasonably straight and free from defects that might affect the suitability for the intended application. Common surface finishes include annealed, pickled, or bright annealed.
