What is TP304/304L
Grade 304 stainless steel is known as the standard "18/8" stainless steel due to its composition of 18% chromium and 8% nickel. This composition gives it excellent corrosion resistance and makes it the most widely used stainless steel grade.
One of the key advantages of grade 304 is its versatility, as it is available in a wide range of products, forms, and finishes. It can be found in various industries and applications, including kitchen sinks, cookware, industrial components, construction materials, and transportation equipment.
Grade 304 has excellent forming and welding properties. Its balanced austenitic structure allows for severe deep drawing without the need for intermediate annealing. This makes it ideal for manufacturing drawn stainless steel parts such as sinks, hollowware, and pans. The "304 ddq" variant, which stands for deep drawing quality, is often used for these applications.
Additionally, grade 304 can be easily formed or rolled into different components for use in the industrial, construction, and transport sectors. Its welding characteristics are also excellent, and post-weld annealing is not required when welding thin sections.
There are variations of grade 304 stainless steel available as well. Grade 304L is the low carbon version, which does not require post-weld annealing and is commonly used for heavy instrumentation components. Grade 304H, on the other hand, contains a higher carbon content, allowing it to be used at elevated temperatures.
Furthermore, the austenitic structure of these grades gives them excellent toughness, even at low temperatures. This makes them suitable for various applications where strength and durability are required.
Overall, grade 304 stainless steel is highly versatile, corrosion-resistant, and has excellent forming and welding properties, making it a popular choice in a wide range of industries.
